Mondelez CEO: food industry changing faster than ever

Changes in consumer bases and the retail environment are changing the face of the food industry. That is the claim made by outgoing Mondelez CEO Irene Rosenfeld.

Speaking to CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” earlier this week Rosenfeld explained: “We have seen the most profound changes in the consumer, in the customer base, in the channel penetration, in our competitive actions. And as a result, it’s been probably that the magnitude and the speed of those changes is bigger than any I have seen in my career.”

The New York native went on to say that though the industry faces “cosmic changes” every few years, this feels different.

Rosenfeld has been involved in the food and beverage industry for three decades. She has served as CEO of Mondelez since 2012 when it was founded following the split of Kraft Foods into a North American grocery business and a global snack firm.

She informed the Mondelez board of her decision to retire some time ago but the news was only made public in August of this year. Rosenfeld will be succeeded by Belgian CEO of McCain Foods Dirk Van de Put who will pick up the reins late this month.
