US organic dairy producer Maple Hill has partnered with Swiss aseptic packaging producer SIG Combibloc to create a single-serve version of its 100% grass-fed organic milk.
The new eight-ounce cartons are designed to be convenient and portable with a re-closable cap and a leak-proof and tamper evident spout, to offer consumers an on-the-go option. Its shelf-stable package means it does not need to be refrigerated until after it is opened.
Through the partnership, Maple Hill has adopted the combismile carton developed by SIG. The cartons are mainly manufactured from renewable raw material wood and bear an FSC-certified label representing its responsibly managed sources. After use, the packages are 100% recyclable.
The development applies to Maple Hill cartons of whole milk and chocolate milk made with Fair Trade cocoa. The cartons contain milk produced from cows that only eat grass and are raised on pasture at small family farms that are Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO). The products are also gluten free, kosher, USDA Organic and non-GMO, with zero antibiotics, artificial flavors or additives.
“There has not been an innovation in shelf-stable milk for years. For the first time ever, consumers will be able to get 100% grass-fed whole milk and chocolate milk on the shelf and in eco-friendly packaging,” said Carl Gerlach, President and CEO of Maple Hill. “SIG has been an integral partner in bringing this product to the market in the right way.”
Maple Hill is available nationwide in more than 8,000 retailers.
